Paint 360 & Amey:
painting a brighter future

Traditional paint use creates high levels of waste and carbon emissions. In the UK alone, an estimated 55 million litres of leftover paint and containers are generated every year, with much of it sent to landfill or incineration. At Paint360, we exist to challenge this linear approach.

WHO WE WORK WITH

For the past seven years, we have worked closely with Amey to enhance sustainability, support social value commitments, and drive innovation across complex built-environment contracts.

Paint360 Amey case study image

Our model sees used paint and plastic cans collected, recycled, and re-engineered into new products. For every 1,000 litres of recycled paint used, 1,917kg of CO₂e is saved — equivalent to driving a van for approximately 6,410 miles.

Through our long-standing partnership with Amey, we are reducing the environmental impact of operational activities across justice and school estates, while combining circular recycling solutions with social mobility and inclusive recruitment.

In 2024, the use of Paint360’s recycled paint across Amey’s justice contract contributed to a carbon saving of 29,396kg, with more than 45,000 litres of our recycled paint used on site.

More than 650 used plastic paint cans were collected and recycled across the justice estate in 2024, delivering an embodied carbon saving of 337kg.

Across the Speke Parklands schools contract, paint and containers recycled through Paint360 saved a further 129kg of carbon, diverting 63 litres of waste paint and 95 plastic cans from landfill.

As a social enterprise, Paint360 creates employment opportunities and apprenticeships for people facing barriers to work, including prison leavers and the long-term unemployed.

This collaboration demonstrates how supply chain partnerships can deliver measurable sustainability outcomes alongside meaningful social value.

Our partnership with Amey reduces environmental impact and generates tangible social value.

Innovation that delivers with impact

We understand that painting and decorating is a constant requirement across large and varied estates, yet traditional paint products come with a significant carbon footprint and high levels of waste. At the same time, there is a clear need to create employment and training pathways for prison leavers, the long-term unemployed, and those not in education, employment or training.

Paint360 addresses both challenges by supplying environmentally responsible recycled paint while creating real routes into work.

Based in the Black Country, we collect, recycle, and re-engineer waste paint and plastic cans, transforming them into high-quality products while delivering employment and apprenticeship opportunities.

We have closed the loop of use, recycling, and reuse.

Embracing the benefits on our schools’ contracts

Previously, paint collected from refurbishment, maintenance, and repair works at the Speke Parklands school complex was disposed of through a one-way waste process. Working with Amey, this material is now diverted from landfill and reintroduced into the supply chain as part of a circular solution.

Following the success of the recycling initiative, Paint360 now supplies recycled paint for the redecoration of the site’s FM suite, demonstrating how recycled products can be reintegrated back into live operational environments.

We enable CRED participants to use sustainable materials as they gain practical experience.

Tackling waste to unlock potential

Across the Ministry of Justice estate, Paint360 has been the sole paint provider for Amey’s Clean, Rehabilitative, Enabling and Decent (CRED) programme for seven years.

The CRED programme enables prisoners to gain practical experience in painting and decorating, stores, groundworks, and general maintenance, improving employability while enhancing living conditions.

By supplying recycled paint across multiple prison sites, we support sustainable learning environments while embedding circular economy principles.

In addition to supplying recycled products, Paint360 works with Amey to source materials through Household Waste Recycling Centres, strengthening a closed-loop model that maximises environmental and social value.

Our efforts have seen us reduce waste, lower carbon emissions, and create life-changing opportunities.

Creating lasting change together

Since 2018, our partnership has continued to grow in scale and impact. Thousands of litres of waste paint have been diverted from landfill, significant carbon savings have been achieved, and individuals trained through the CRED programme have progressed into sustainable employment with Paint360.

As Amey’s school contracts increasingly adopt recycled paint solutions, our collaboration demonstrates how supplier partnerships can deliver tangible environmental benefits while creating life-changing opportunities for people and communities.

Together, we are reducing waste, lowering carbon emissions, and proving that sustainability and social value can go hand in hand.

Testimonials

“

Trading with a social enterprise vendor can make sound operational commercial sense as well as supporting Amey’s ESG strategy and goals. The company’s three key goals are to accelerate the change to a resilient and low carbon future, to enhance the wellbeing of people and communities we impact, and to achieve sustainable and responsible growth. Amey’s work with Paint360 supports our work on the Clean Rehabilitative, Enabling and Decent (CRED) programme being run through our Ministry of Justice contract. This in turn helps Paint360 employ more people with barriers to employment.”

“

Over the past seven years, Amey’s support has been instrumental in enabling us to provide sustainable employment opportunities for those facing barriers to work. It’s truly rewarding to collaborate with an organisation that places ESG at the forefront of its procurement decisions. We measure and validate our social value through the TOM System™, and we’re proud to be on track to deliver over £860,000 in social value—a remarkable achievement for an SME, and Amey has played a vital role in helping us reach this.”
